How to Help

  • Fold Zines

Folding zines is a relaxing way to keep your hands busy while you watch TV or whatever. If you've got access to a printer (the library has printers), you can download the PDFs and print them yourself. If you don't? Contact us, and we'll be happy to provide you with printed zines.

Honestly, even if you have a printer, consider getting the printouts from us and donating what you would have spent on paper and ink or toner. We're buying in bulk and so probably paying less than you are.

  • Assemble Whistle Packets

    Ingredients:

    • One whistle
    • One lanyard, keychain, string, yarn, or other object that makes a whistle easier to carry
    • One PIRC quarter sheet
    • One bilingual zine OR
    • One Spanish zine and one English zine
    • One (cheap, probably store brand) ziploc bag

    Directions:

    1. Open the ziploc bag
    2. Place all other ingredients in the ziploc bag
    3. Remove excess air from the ziploc bag as you close it
    4. Place 25 completed packets in a container that you don't necessarily want back. Gallon ziploc bags work well
    5. Distribute packets in targeted neighborhoods or get them to someone who will. If you contact us, we will gratefully facilitate that for you.
  • Host a Party

Gather with a few friends in your home or find a venue and put out a public invite. Either way, contact us, and we can provide you whatever materials you need to have a folding and/or assembly party. When the party is over, you can either return the completed packets to us or distribute them in a targeted neighborhood. If it's going to be a public party, let us know and we'll put out a call for partygoers!

  • 3D Print Whistles

If you've got a 3D printer you want to use to print whistes, you can download STL files here and start printing. Contact us to arrange dropoff, pickup, or to get added to a chat where other 3D printer nerds are swapping ideas, developing new whistles, and helping each other troubleshoot printers

  • Donate

We're working on getting set up to receive direct financial contributions, but for now you're invited to support our efforts by buying us a gift card from West3D and we'll use it to buy 3D printer filament we can make whistles out of. Printed whistles are extremely loud and cost between 4 and 11 cents each, depending on the model.

Once you have the gift card, you can contact us with the details and we'll turn your gift card in to whistles.

Please also reach out if you've got any of the following items around the house you'd like to donate and we'll be happy to arrange for dropoff at a convenient location. If you've got a bunch of stuff, we may even be able to arrange pickup:

    • Printer paper of any color
    • Toner cartriges for Brother printers
    • Brother Laser printers
    • Lanyards, key rings, or other objects that can make a whistle wearable
    • Cotton twine or other string that could be made in to lanyards
    • Ziploc bags
    • Paper cutters
    • 3D printer filament
    • A 3D printer
